Jefferys Bay is one of the best right hand breaks on the planet. It is known as one of the longest, most consistent waves in South Africa and is a world renowned surf spot. This incredible spot is often referred to as J Bay.
I stayed with two friends in November 2008 who live and work in J Bay.
They have grown up on the beach, in the sand and sun and learnt to surf on this pristine wave. Their parents moved to a prime spot in front of Super Tubes way back when this little town was known as a fishing village not a surfing mecca.
They run one of the most stunning guest houses in J Bay, called Beach Music. A stone throw away from "Super Tubes" if you were any closer you would be sleeping on the beach. The vibe of the place is relaxing, beautiful and a perfect place to unwind. Even if your not staying there it's worth going to have a look. With Beach Music as a platform Tegan and Tara also run Stay in Jbay looking after any activities and accommodation needs you have.

Valentines Day, hearts, shaggy dogs, chasing balls, ice, snow, fire on the frozen lake, friends, good times, fun!
Our humble abode tucked away in the Cash Creek Valley was dumped with snow and wintry feelings. I headed into Towanda, the town down the road and experienced its romantic mood filled with busy people shoveling snow.
The Susquehanna River runs through Towanda. Its the longest river on the east coast of the United States and the 16th longest river in country. Makes me wish I had a touring kayak, tent, stove, sounds like an expedition.
With ever railway line, you find a conductor. There is a railway line which runs along the river and through the town. I've seen heaps of old photos around town in local shops and restaurants but have never seen a train run through town...yet?
The Keystone Theatre plays an important role for Towanda. I've spent some time shoveling snow from out front of it, enjoyed movies in it and been fortunate enough to shoot a few events for it. I enjoyed capturing this image of the theatre.

Having never been in snow before, I'm enjoying learning how to shoot and enjoy the light it provides.
An expedition I contributed to during December 2009 with two amazing, very talented people, Rob Wilson and Ine Skortjen.
We knew it wasn’t a first decent but also knew only a handful of paddlers have made the effort to get into this gorge to experience its magical rapids and steep granite walls.
Our first day was spent dropping into the gorge. We paddled, carried and then abseiled our heavy boats. The twelve hours in the desert sun took its toll on our bodies as everyone looked and felt dehydrated. We made it down to the river and looked back up our decent line, a side canyonfilled with house size boulders, we were all pleased the abseiling and zip lining of the boats went well without any hiccups. All safe we spent the evening drinking liters of water watching the stars glimmering over us. The next day we paddled up the gorge to the rapids we had missed to have a peak. The size and gradient was mind blowing. We started descending down the river, rapid after rapid showed us that this was no easy run. Just as we had worked so hard to get into the gorge it’s rapids were steep, technical and pushy.Robs ladened boat made for some very startling lines. The force of the water was strong and the steepness of the rapids was very impressive. By the time we hit camp Rob, Ine and myself were searching for any shade we could. Our first coffee for the day saw us through a conversational dinner. Our last day was a surprise, we walked up the Droeval canyon to find a perfectly still pool at the bottom of a 30meter slide. The fish Eagles called while we swam in the cool water. We left the canyon and paddled through two steep and fun rapids. A trip like this doesn’t come around every day. We were lucky to have experienced the gorge and all its beauty. This trip will be remembered for a long time.

The subway ride from Penn Station out to Brooklyn was filled with characters, this is one of the best parts of going into the city for me, people watching. I visited my friend, Susie Cushner while I was in New York City. She is an accomplished photographer who now resides in Brooklyn. We discussed life, photography and enjoyed a delicious cappachino at a small European style coffee shop late in the afternoon. I left her house inspired and filled with creative energy.
