Spring Black Moose Fest

>> Wednesday, May 19, 2010

A last minute call to head up to the first ever Sping Black Moose Fest was a good idea. Heading up there knowing no one, I returned on Sunday with a handful of great new friends, some solid lines run and fantastic memories. The bottom Moose is a great strecth of river, pool drop with the emphasis on the word drop.

This is the crew I met.

Alan running Fowlersville, rapid # 1.

Liane and Ed took the Shredder down the entire stretch of the Bottom Moose.

There was bound to be some carnage.

Chris styling Alpine Line on Crystal rapid.

The next day we headed to the Black River, Sunday surf sessions on Hole Brothers provided some entertainment.

Alan showing us how its done

I finally got to test drive a Wavesport Project 52

Ed never gets bored at the river

Post card from Cartagena de Indias,( Cartagena of Indies) one of the most beatiful cities I have ever been to in my travels. It appears to be the first documented human community in what is now Colombia. One of the best stories connected to the city is; " The dramatically increasing fame and wealth of the prosperous city turned it into an attractive plunder site for pirates and corsairs – French privateers licensed by their king. Just 30 years after its founding, the city was pillaged by the French nobleman Jean-François Roberval. The city then set about strengthening its defences and surrounding itself with walled compounds and castles"

The Mahoopany

Last week Geren and I headed out to the Mehoopany Creek on a very cold 10 degree day. The river has no gauge to read water levels, we took a chance and got lucky! Found a fun little section to play on, two holes and a nice slide below. The river had flooded during the winter and bridges were washed away and trees blocked a long section of the river resulting in a couple compulsory portages. Geren was testing his new Riot Inferno, nice little boat from Riot Kayaks, feels like it will provide some pop when on a fast wave. I was testing my old school moves in a wavesport big EZ. Some solid flat spins. A great day out in the sun enjoying the river!
